Yasmin: Why is sunscreen so important?

Amba: Apart from the huge increase in skin cancer risks, the cosmetic long term effects account for 80-90% of what we class as effects of ageing -  wrinkles, lines, pigmentation and crepey skin texture. UV rays causes skin cell damage and destroy collagen, which weakens and damages skin support, causing deep wrinkles and sagging skin. Majority of sun damage is done when young!

Y: How much SPF should we be applying?

A:A good way to measure an ideal amount for the face and neck is two finger lengths or 1 teaspoon.

Y: When should you incorpurate SPF into your skincare routine?

A: SPF should be the last step of your skin care routine then your make-up can go on top.

Y: The best sunscreens for the face?

A: My fave SPF for the face has to be Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector, but finding the right formula for you is important. The Exuviance is thin in texture, and adds a glow, although some find it too shiny. Its worth spending time and investing the perfect SPF for your skin, and that plays well with your other products. A minimum of SPF 30 ideally for the face.

Y: The best sunscreen for the body?

A: Clarins sun creams will always be my go-to for body protection. They absorb beautifully, and the fragrance……. Holiday in a bottle!!!

Y: What should a good aftersun do?

A: Aftersun is a hydrating cream or lotion, with added cooling/ soothing ingredients to help take the burn/ heat out of the skin. You can use any skin hydrator to add and seal in moisture after sun exposure, it doesn’t have to be a specific after sun. If unfortunately, you have got a little sun burn, then a cooling gel is best to first cool the skin. You will notice more clinical skin care brands will not market after sun, as exposure to the point of skin burning is obviously not advised at all.

Y: Is aftersun just for sunburns?

A:After sun could also be used after waxing treatments, or following anything that increases heat and sensitivity with in the top layers of the skin.

Y: Best Aftersun Brands?

A: First choice avoid over exposer in the first place! Second choice Clarins.

Y: Top 3 SPF brands?

A: Heliocar, La Roche Posay, A Big Hat!!!!
